The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque is a government agency, located in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, near the Grand Mosque.
It’s establishment dates back to 1384 AH under the name, ‘General Presidency for Religious Supervision of the Grand Mosque’.
To perform the tasks of overseeing teaching, guidance, Imamat etc at Masjid Al Haram, the first president appointed was His Eminence Sheikh Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Humaid - may Allah have mercy upon him.

On 6 Dhu al Qadah 1397 AH, the noble Supreme Decree was issued to establish the General Presidency for the Two Holy Mosques. The presidents that have been appointed since;
1) 1397 - Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Rashid 2) 1400 - Sheikh Suleiman bin Obayd
3) 1411 - Sheikh Muhammad Subayyil
4) 1421 - Sheikh Salih bin Humaid
5) 1422 - Sheikh Saleh bin Hussain
6) 1433 until now - Sheik
