His saga is the entrepreneurial creation myth writ large: Steve Jobs cofounded Apple in his parents’ garage in , was ousted in , returned to rescue it from near bankruptcy in , and by the time he died, in October , had built it into the world’s most valuable company. Along the way he helped to transform seven industries: personal computing, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, retail stores, and digital publishing. He thus belongs in the pantheon of America’s great innovators, along with Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Walt Disney. None of these men was a saint, but long after their personalities are forgotten, history will remember how they applied imagination to technology and business.

Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs (February 24, &#;– October 5, [2][3]) was an Americanbusinessman, investor, and co-founder and CEO of Apple Inc. He was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pixar Animation Studios until it was bought by The Walt Disney Company.[4] He was the largest shareholder at Disney[5] and a member of Disney's Board of Directors. He was seen as a leading figure in both the computer and entertainment industries.[6] In August , Jobs resigned, and was appointed Chairman of Apple. He served in that position until he died, at the age of 56, on October 5, from complications of pancreatitis related to type 1 diabetes and metastatic insulinoma. Steve Jobs had type 1 diabetes as a child and had problems with insulin when he died.
